ReplyDeleteIf Past Performance is the factor that is key for these multibaggers, All rich people would be librarians..... Warren Buffet???
ReplyDeleteIf JBM Auto performed well in the past one year with more than 1500% returns, will it perform the same next year too? Let's not rely too much on the past.
I think you guys are missing the point...I think the purpose behind sharing the list of multi-baggers is: 1) to inculcate the benefits of long term holding, and 2) to motivate us to study the list of past winners and try to find out the common characteristics that made all these stocks such huge wealth creators..
ReplyDeleteI think MVP is quite open with his portfolio and recommendations, how can he come up with a list of future 1000 baggers..he is already writing about those stocks that according to him have the potential to become multibaggers..
We should not accept spoon feeding from him...
Let us also contribute with some meaningful discussion about financial analysis etc..
Hi Manish,
ReplyDeleteOne looks for Better ideas, better recommendations. When a blog already exists with all these scrips mentioned here, why duplicating? Another point here is we can not depend on the past performance alone.
But tell me, if Value Picks recommend an ill liquid stock, are you going to buy?
MVP recommends B L A C K R O S E. You think it is spoon feeding ?
Hi Bhanu,
ReplyDeleteYou have raised a few points:
1: The question of past performance that you have pointed out is more applicable in case of individual stocks..we just cannot rely on the metrics of past performance to forecast similar future growth. There could be many reasons - Base rate swells, high return on capital invites competition in the sector, management may misallocate capital etc. etc..however, while studying for wealth creators, multi baggers they do share some common traits..i think that's the reason behind Motilal Oswal's Wealth Creation Studies..so that we should take guidance from the past winners and try to see what are those businesses that exhibit similar traits and can retain competitive advantage for a longer period. I didn't mean blindly forecasting past growth rate into the future..
2: "If VP recommends an illiquid stocks am I going to buy??'..Well, I am not taking either VP or MVP blog as a stock tips service..The profitability, competitive advantage, quality of management, and above all valuation of a stock matter more to me than liquidity..I won't mind buying an illiquid stock if I think I am perfectly fine in holding it for 5-10 years..buying into illiquidity and selling to institutional buyers can be a very profitable approach..mere recommendation of anybody is the starting point for me not the last..
3: Whether it is BLACKROSE or any other stock, it is not spoon-feeding so long as we don't start pestering MVP as to when we should buy and when we should sell...borrowed conviction is dangerous than borrowed capital..if we buy on MVP or VP recommendation than we will look up to them for hand-holding on every step..discussing any stock is fine..my comment on spoonfeeding was related to an earlier comment where the reader asked for a HIT-LIST of 1000 bagger..do you think it is even possible??..a stock will become a double, a 4-bagger, a 10-bagger, a 20-bagger before it goes up further and the journey in the stock market is never linear..
MVP is putting up his recommendations, he thinks good potential in Black Rose and Arrow Coated...some of the other stocks in his portfolio are also good....what more do we want??
Thanks,
Manish
Hi Manish,
DeleteThinking of openness, even VP dodged a few issues when pointed out. This happened three times, not just once.
The last time when I asked him whether the AIMCO PESTICIDES is a 40 years old or not, he gave me their website . But when the DOB of the founder is 1967, how come it is a 40 year old company?
On the other hand, I tried to get hands on AIMCO for FIVE consecutive sessions, but every time, there were a million shares to be bought at the upper ceiling. No chance. You think it is being manipulated or a genuine buyer seeking a million shares a day?
Ya, the purpose of the search ihad it's merits too, I found many multi baggers
I am not interested in AIMCO...and, frankly if you are not convinced with AIMCO too then don't buy it..there are other opportunities as well in the market..
DeleteWhether Value Pick (VP) dodge something or not it is not appropriate to discuss that over here, it's MVP blog...
If you think VP is not transparent then don;t read his blog, simple..isn't it :)
hey MVP
ReplyDeleteAt least disclose the name of the stock, the winners and the Book :)
ReplyDeleteHi friends,
Thanks for the lengthy discussions, and I am positive on discussions, as far it is healthy and beneficial to all readers.
To the earlier points mentioned in comments, my short answers are :
1. The purpose of giving Past performance of few share is to give importance to long term holding of sound companies. If we sell for just mere 30% or 50% or even 100% we may not achieve financial freedom from investment. Sizable money is always made with long term investment. A new post by VP gives more insight :)

2. The purpose of my blog (I mentioned it in beginning of blog itself) is to apply long term investing with VP recomms to a practical portfolio building approach. But I am too not meaning spoon feeding to my readers, but encourage research by all. Entire purpose of my blog is to show, how we can build long term wealth by using a simple SIP strategy on quality stocks.
3. As far as I am concerned, the only negative I seen in VP blog is (I have done an extensive research on his blog) in earlier years he recommended more and later he corrected it to an extent. Now VP is only recommending 2 picks per month. In my opinion it may be better he recommends only 1 pick per month, helps to avoid possible weak ones and helps in getting better performance
PS: The name of FFS 6 and details will be annunced on 18 - Sep - 2014.
